Architectural Gilding

Gilded Copper Dome- Kansas City, MO

Architectural gilding, which also has long standing historic roots, is found on the exteriors and interiors of secular, religious and civic buildings as well monumental sculpture and edifices around the world. Architectural gilding also embellishes lobbies and public spaces of hotels and corporate headquarters, not to mention exclusive clubs and private residences. While most architectural gilding uses mordant (oil) gilding methods, some interior installations incorporate water gilding and even glass gilding applications. Exterior architectural gilding installations are only done with mordant gilding methods and commonly require intensive surface preparation and/or restoration prior to any leaf being applied.
