Oil (Surface or mordant) Gilding - Cavanah


Beginner to intermediate

This will be a busy two days! In this class we will work on several gilding projects. We will gild at least one small frame, and work on several sample boards applying a variety of different leaf as well as mica powder gilding. These gilding processes can be used in a variety of applications such as frame gilding, art projects, architectural elements, and more.  We will experiment with different types of size and learn the proper application of each one. We will cover surface preparations for your gilding projects as well as the final sealants for the gilded surface and their application.  We will also cover simple toning as time permits.

All materials are included in the tuition: Wood Frame, Sample Boards, Gesso, Shellac, Shellac Pads, Slow Size, Quick Size, Acrylic size, Mica Powders, Burnish Sealer, Sand paper and pads, 0000Steel Wool, Horse Hair Cloth, Compo Leaf, Aluminum Leaf, 22 Gold Leaf, Silver Leaf, Various Paint, Wax
